BioMagic Trouble Shooting.

To treat a chemical contaminated cassette.

Some people have found that in spite of following all the directions on the use of BioMagic, they are still experiencing odour. The most common reason for this is that there may still be poisonous chemicals clinging to the insides of the cassette where a simple flushing is not enough. In this case remove the cassette, add 100-ml of BioMagic then fill to the top, to overflowing with clean water. Screw on the cap and leave standing on end for at least 24-hours. Empty next day, the smells should be gone, if heavy contamination is present you may have to repeat this procedure.

HERE'S AN IDEA FROM ONE OF OUR BioMagic LOVERS!

One or two people have complained that there is no colouring in BioMagic like there is in the Blue and Green Poisons. The reason for that is that these dyes are so powerful that if they splash on your clothing you won't be able to get it out. However, if you would prefer that there is a colouring dye to disguise the waste then it's up to you! There is nothing to stop you adding a safe food dye to the contents of the waste tank just before you empty, but not to the bottle of BioMagic because we have no control   over what dye is used and we   could not guarantee that it would not affect the product. If you fancy trying this then see how it goes on and please let us know if it works.

POSSIBLE PROBLEMS?

If for any reason your BioMagic does not appear to perform as well as we say it should, then please consider the following; -

Remember you add BioMagic to the bottom tank water, which should be enough to cover the waste in the tank, depending on the tank size we reccommend you add at least 2-litres of water, then the 50-ml of   regular of 25-ml of DS   BioMagic This allows the BioMagic to come into contact with any waste.

Because BioMagic Double Strength is much heavier than water you will get a better mixing result if you mix the 25-ml in a jug of water first before you empty it into your cassette or tank, especially if you only fill your tank once you have reached your destination and the van is no longer   moving to mix the solution. You may   also add BioMagic to a top tank if you have one, as a flushing agent.

When it comes to emptying time, make sure you flush out all old waste matter before replacing the cassette into your toilet compartement, especially if you are not going to use it for a while. You must remember that any waste left in there WITHOUT the mixture of BioMagic and water, will start to smell and will produce hydrogen sulphide gas so it is essential to make sure the cassette/tank is cleared of all old waste matter before closing up and leaving the van. If you think that there may be waste matter left in the cassette/holding tank and you're not going to be using the van for a week or more then it may be best to leave the slide valve cracked open a touch to avoid a gas buildup. As soon as you return, you will soon know if the tank was left clean, there will be a pong if it wasn't, however as soon as you fill some more BioMagic water mix down there that pong will be gone.

BioMagic may not work as well as it should if the water in your cassette or holding tank becomes too acid. If you suspect this or are getting bad   odours, then a tablespoon full of bicarbonate of soda in a cup of warm water, poured into the toilet and flushed down, should adjust the pH of the water to a more normal state and the BioMagic product will work.

If you are getting a calcium build up (limescale) this will absorb the odour of urine. See the page on LIMESCALE to find out how to deal with this. BioMagic, unlike some other chemical products, does not contain a limescale remover due to this being a chemical that is not envirnmentally friendly, so you have to deal with lime scale in the manner suggested here. Any domestic limescale remover containing phosphoric acid will be suitable to use in your cassette or tank, follow the instructions on the bottle.

Like all biological toilet fluids, BioMagic will not perform well in temperatures below 4-Deg C. At these low temps. all bacterial action slows down and stops completely at zero. This is normal; there should be no smell as nothing is active. As soon as the temp. rises above 4 deg C the bacterial action will restart. Try to keep your cassette warm or pour some warm water into the tank to get things going.

If you intend using the normal toilet paper that we say BioMagic will digest, it is best to use the cheap toilet paper. The luxury and quilted type will take much longer to break down due to its heavy construction.

Avoid using any form of medicated toilet paper, the medication used may harm the friendly bacteria. If you find that despite doing everything right, you are still not getting odour free conditions and the waste is not breaking down. There can be several conditions that can cause this.

Is anyone taking medication? Especially powerful antibiotics. These are designed to kill all bacteria and may be killing the friendly bacteria in the gut and then in the waste tank by transfer. Any medication that is designed to kill bacteria will slow down or stop BioMagic from working.

Are you a Vegan? If so you may find that BioMagic does not work as well as it does with a carnivore. This is because the bacteria in your gut do not need to be as powerful as in those that eat meat. To kick start the process, simply add a teaspoon-full of garden soil or a teaspoon-full of Yakult or natural live yoghurt to the bottom tank to introduce the necessary friendly bacteria.

Is anyone cleaning the toilet bowl with any other chemicals that will harm the friendly bacteria? Remember that you can mix BioMagic 50/50 with water, fill a trigger spray bottle and use this to clean the bowl using some toilet paper, then simply flush down the toilet, this will not harm the process.

If your bottle of BioMagic has been allowed to freeze, the water, concentrate and special salts will separate, bring slowly to 55-Deg. C again, stirring all the time and the liquid will be re-usable.

If you use your portable toilet for urine only then you will need to add a tea-spoonfull of soil, yakult or live natural yoghurt to the bottom tank. This is because urine is sterile and contains no bacteria so adding bacteria from the soil or yoghurt will speed up the process.

Make sure that you are using a minimum of 50-ml of BioMagic every three days. If odour returns it means that the bacteria have consumed all the oxygen from the BioMagic you gave them and they want some more! The bacteria are telling you that they have run out of BioMagic when there is a smell of hydrogen sulphide. Add a bit more and the smell will be gone.

Please remember that once you start using BioMagic, your toilet and waste tank become a natural living zone and adding any chemical that will harm those friendly little bacteria doing such a wonderful job will stop the action that is keeping odour at bay and breaking down waste.

If you suspect that someone has added chemicals it is best to flush out the tank and start again from scratch.

We will add to this trouble shooting list as we encounter other problems so that you may get the best out of your BioMagic.

Alex.
