The Champion Ultrastar is an unusual American RV. It has a fibreglass rounded body not the usual slab sided models you normally see around. It was imported into the UK in 1994 as far as we can see and has a total length of 34-feet and a total width of 7-ft-8-inches so some 6-inches narrower than the usual 8'-2" of the American RV's, this all helps on our narrow roads. Being all fibreglass there is no rust. The chassis is the indestructible OSHKOSH and it has the bullet proof Cummins 5.9-litre proper diesel engine, not one of those lighter motors that require glow plugs. The engine is coupled to the well known and trusted fully automatic Allison gear box. The RV has a mass of under 7.5-ton so can be driven on a normal car licence as long as you passed your test before 1997-(check with DVLA.) There is a queen sized island double bed in the rear with individual luxury mattresses for more comfort. Corrian topped bedside tables with drawers provide ample storage as well as over head lockers to the rear of the bed. The rear bedroom has its own sound system and tape player built in. It has brass bedside lights and central fluorescent lights, 240, 120 and 12V power points and the heating controls, it has its own airconditioning system. The rear bedroom can be closed off from the rest of the RV by a sliding door. There are two other berths, one formed by the Rock-n-Roll leather settle in the lounge and another formed by the dinnette. The captains chairs can swivel around when not in use for driving and there is a further small captains chair as well as the three seater leather settee. The galley has a corrian work top (like marble) with twin stainless steel sinks and mixer taps and a gas stove with four hobs, a microwave and convection oven with filtered fan extraction unit above the stove. On the other side is a full sized fridge freezer that can be operated from gas, mains or battery power. A slide out larder for cans, bottles and dry provisions is also provided as part of the galley. In the passage from the bedroom to the galley there is a huge wardrobe and many drawers and lockers for all your clothing. All the interior cabinet work is American solid Oak, the gally floor is solid laid Oak, the rest of the RV is covered in a lovely blue carpet and the side walls and ceilings are finished in a cream easy to clean leather type material.
Opposite the wardrobe is the bathroom which has a brand new white porcelain electrically flushing toilet (not the one shown in the photos). It has a corrian topped vanity unit and wash hand basin with gold plated mixer taps and a nice separate shower cubical all with hot and cold pressurised water system. The bathroom door will fasten out to close off the bathroom from the saloon giving more space for changing. Hot water is provided from a gas operated boiler and storage cylinder that automatically maintains the set temp. General heating is by thermostatically controlled gas fired hot air blown heating which will heat the entire RV from freezing to a comfortable temp. in a few min. All windows and the main door have opening sliding panels, insect screens and blinds and there are two opening roof hatches. There is a large flat screen TV and CD/DVD player built in and a super surround sound system as well as the audio radio tape player in the dash. Two 12-V electric fans cool the driver and passanger. The drivers seat is electrically adjustable as are the outside mirrors which are also heated. A sky TV box is housed in a locker above the passanger side and a satelite dish and tripod is included in a full price sale.
The whole RV is wired for UK 13-amp 240-V power points supplied from a 240-V mains hook-up cable or from the onboard Onan Generator via a change over switch. A consumer panel with breakers protects the 240-V equipment so no messing with fuses. There are a number of 120-V power outlets for any American gadgets or to supply computers etc. The lighting is all 12 Volt DC and these are fed from a separate fuse box. The RV has a 90-gallon fuel tank that will give a range of over 1400-miles. The gas for heating cooking and to power the on board generator is stored in a large LPG tank below the RV and that is filled from the LPG pumps at most garages so much cheaper than bottled gas. The Onan LPG Powered generator is started from inside the RV from a switch on the dashboard. There are two huge engine starting batteries and two house batteries which can be linked at the touch of a button, these are all charged from an automatic smart charger as well as the engine. There are 4 almost new tyres and three tyres with loads of life in them yet, this includes the spare which lives in the rear right through locker. You can expect to get up to 18-mpg on motorway cruising and 15-mpg in towns and urban areas so costs the same to run as many 4 X 4's towing a caravan. The oil and water never seem to go down and the engine has done less than 70000-miles, nothing for these engines which regularly clock up half a million miles. Outside there are loads of lockers and the toilet and sink/shower separate holding tanks. The on-board 140-litre fresh water tank is located below the rear bed and is filled via a special hose from any standard UK screwed tap fitting. There is a removable bike/scooter or luggage rack at the rear which we use to carry the frame of a 5 X 3 metre marquee ao its very strong. I'm sure that I've missed loads of stuff off here so phone to make an appointment to view this rare opportunity to buy a classic on the most fantastic site you will ever find in the UK.
